Wake Up Austin: Friday, March 13

By Lillian Brown, Partner, Director, Communications Planning, Mindshare

It’s day one of SXSWi 2015. Today’s mantra, in true Texas form, is “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose.” Mindshare is setting out to take it all in and see what this year’s conference has in store for us. There are lots of questions we’ll be looking to answer over the coming days: Will there be a breakout startup star? What is the role of brands on-site? How will SXSW differentiate itself from CES? And so on.

Be sure to follow us at @Mindshare_NA through Tuesday and catch us today at one of the following events – our top picks for Day 1:

Content Marketing Vs Don Draper: The End of Ads
2pm at the Sheraton Austin (Capitol Ballroom)

Jamie Reilly (Kastner & Partners), Linda Boff (GE), Maya Kosovalic (L’Oreal), and Stephanie Losee (Dell) will explore whether the notion of a big advertising idea is dead and discuss the implications of content, branded entertainment, and native advertising through the lens of Don Draper’s core competency.

Defining the Next Generation Retail Experience
3:30pm at the Austin Convention Center (Ballroom D)

Talk about a powerhouse trifecta… Rent the Runway’s Jennifer Hyman, Sephora’s Julie Bornstein, and Stitch Fix’s Katrina Lake will come together to discuss the future of retail and how brands can innovate to bring consumers back “in store”.

Back to the Future of Media
5pm at the Austin Convention Center (Ballroom D)

Ben Lerer, co-founder and CEO of Thrillist Media Group, will discuss what successful media companies will look like in ten years. We’re at a pivotal moment where lines are blurring and the future is uncertain – Ben will break it down and provide clarity on where we’re headed.

NY Times Magazine Relaunch Party
8pm at The Mohawk

With just a few issues under its belt, the revamped New York Times Magazine promises to deliver the feeling of being back in NYC by bringing in music from DJ Dan Deacon and food by Shake Shack. And if their relaunch event in NY is any indication, this event will be chock full of people who are pushing content and storytelling boundaries.

Wired + Jaguar: The Boffin’s Lab
9-11pm at The Hangar Lounge

A Mindshare client, Jaguar, is partnering with WIRED Insider for a night of cocktails, surprise appearances, custom art installations, and a DJ set from Alex Mustonen of Snarkitecture. And of course guests will be able to see the all-new Jaguar XE. Come join us!
