A Partnership in the Fullest Sense of the Word

Executive Director of New York Cares

One of the great pleasures of my job is hearing about ways our supporters and Community Partners extend their relationships beyond their initial New York Cares programming. Take global media and marketing services company, Mindshare (and its sister companies, GroupM, Xaxis, and Kinetic) and PS 443 in the Bronx. Together, they are a shining example of what is possible when a corporation harnesses its energy and expertise to meet the unique needs of a New York Cares Community Partner. The result has changed lives.

“I've partnered with Brian Decker and the team from Mindshare for the past three years on New York Cares Day Fall at PS 443 X, and this is a partnership in the fullest sense of the word,” said Linda Blacken, an experienced New York Cares volunteer team leader. “Brian has been my right-hand person, shoulder, and ear as I’ve worked out the project planning details for the events. I can assign my most sensitive tasks to them and know that, through Brian’s leadership and the team’s work ethic, the tasks will be carried out enthusiastically, carefully, and with 100% commitment.”

After that first Cares Day four years ago, Decker, who has driven Mindshare’s activities in the community, and his team were inspired by the students and leadership at the Bronx school and have supported them in ways far beyond that annual fall volunteer day.

“They have been true collaborators,” said Pamela Lee, Principal at PS 443 X. “Mindshare donated computers to the school last year and every time they come to our school to volunteer, they bring office supplies that are always immediately taken and used by staff and students' families. They volunteer throughout the year on a range of support from arts activities with our students to manual labor.”

“This past Cares Day, Mindshare painted the outside of our school building with a beautiful mural of children of all backgrounds holding hands,” Lee said. “And they've painted our hearts with the gift of giving.”

As if that weren’t enough, Mindshare also takes part in New York Cares Day Spring, directly assists in the Coat Drive by collecting coats, and even made New York Cares the beneficiary of a holiday fundraiser. Mindshare also secures in-kind advertising space in support of New York Cares’ volunteer and Coat Drive campaigns, helping us to mobilize thousands of New York City volunteers and to collect tens of thousands of winter coats.
